How the cover letter editor works

The editor offers templates for a cover letter following the German application standard and can be edited directly in the browser, with a live preview of the finished document. You choose between three variants, a formal first draft, a modern variant, and a variant for a career change, and adjust company, position, contact person, and address in structured fields instead of designing a blank text document from scratch. Alternatively, you can paste in the text of a job posting: the editor automatically recognizes the company name, job title, and contact person from it and fills them into the matching fields, without you having to type anything yourself.

Using the deep-link feature, you can also start a cover letter for a specific job posting directly from Job Matching or from Match-Score. Company, job title, and, where recognizable, the contact person are carried over automatically from the respective source, so you don't have to search or type them in again. This way the tools Job Matching, Match-Score, and Cover Letter Editor build directly on each other instead of being used separately.

AI-powered tools are also available, letting you automatically make a written paragraph shorter or longer without rewriting the content yourself. This is especially helpful when German is not your native language and you are unsure whether the length and tone fit the industry or the company, for example a care facility compared to a technical business. Unlike a general-purpose AI writing tool, this adjustment works directly on your existing text and within the chosen German application format, instead of generating a completely new text that would then need to be adapted back to the DIN 5008 structure. Several drafts can be saved in parallel under their own name, for example separated by industry or target company, and reloaded later with one click from the version list.

Your texts are processed as described in our privacy policy. With a free account, the current draft along with the chosen style is automatically saved on the server and synced across devices, so you can, for example, keep writing on your phone what you started on your computer. Without an account, the draft stays stored locally in the browser only. A finished cover letter can then be combined with the CV from the CV Editor into a complete application package, so both documents match each other in format and tone, and can be saved directly into the Application Tracker as a new entry.
