German job-application vocabulary — 5 min/day, spaced repetition, locally saved.
How the Terminology Trainer works
The trainer uses spaced repetition: terms you know well are repeated less often, terms you are still unsure about appear more frequently. This way, in short daily sessions of about 5 minutes, you build up German application and specialist vocabulary in a targeted way, from general terms like "eigenverantwortlich" (self-responsible) to industry-specific terms like "Pflegestufe" (care level). After each card, you rate for yourself how confidently you knew the term: Again, Hard, Good or Easy. Based on this rating, the trainer automatically calculates when the card is next due, with "Again" bringing it back as early as the next day and "Easy" pushing it out to a noticeably longer interval.
This method works particularly well for vocabulary, less so for grammar, because it relies on recognizing individual terms rather than sentence structures. Short, regular sessions are more effective than rare, long study blocks, because the brain stores terms that are repeated shortly before they would be forgotten much more stably than terms read repeatedly within a single long session. A card only counts as reliably mastered once you have succeeded on it several times in a row and the interval until its next review already spans several weeks, not just after a single correct answer.
The vocabulary is organized into topic decks, including Medicine, Care, Electrical, Construction, Logistics, Social Work, Early Education, Hospitality, IT and Skilled Trades, plus general decks for Applications, Office and Soft Skills. The order of the decks deliberately follows the professions with the highest demand for skilled workers in Germany, so you can start practicing first where this vocabulary comes up most often during the application process. Each card shows the German term together with an example in context and, where relevant, related terms from the same field, so you learn the word in its typical usage rather than in isolation. Your progress per deck is shown as a percentage and as a count of due cards, alongside a streak indicator for consecutive learning days.
Your learning progress is stored locally and handled as described in our privacy policy, so the trainer focuses over time on exactly the terms you still need to practice. This makes it particularly useful as a complement to the Cover Letter Editor and the Interview Trainer, because industry-specific vocabulary is needed directly there, and uncertainty about individual terms is quickly noticed in an interview. Especially for professions with a high share of specialist vocabulary, such as care work or the skilled trades, the short daily practice helps you express yourself more confidently both in the interview and in everyday work.
