How the CV Editor works
The editor creates a CV in the tabular DIN format expected in Germany, directly in the browser and with a live preview of the finished document. You fill in your details in structured fields instead of formatting a text document from scratch, and immediately see what the result looks like, including page breaks and spacing as they will later appear in the printed or PDF-sent document.
The format takes into account conventions common in Germany, such as chronological order and how a photo or an application gap is handled. Especially for applications from abroad, these conventions often differ significantly from the CV format used in your country of origin, which is why the editor pre-structures the sections expected in Germany, such as work experience, education, and language skills, in the customary order.
Your entries are processed as described in our privacy policy and can optionally be synced with your account, so you can continue working later or maintain several versions for different applications, for example one version emphasizing leadership experience and a second emphasizing a specific specialization. The finished CV can then be combined directly with a matching cover letter from the Cover Letter Editor into a complete application package.
Frequently asked questions about the CV Editor
Is the CV Editor really free to use without registration?
Yes. You can create and edit your CV directly in the browser without an account. Without an account, your data stays saved only in this browser; with an optional account, it can be synced across devices.
Can I download the CV as a PDF or Word file?
The export currently happens as a PDF via the browser's print function (Ctrl+P → Save as PDF). The editor does not currently offer a direct Word file (.docx).
Does the CV created match the format expected in Germany?
Yes, the editor creates a tabular CV in DIN format with the order customary in Germany (work experience, education, language skills), especially relevant if your previous CV follows a different country's format.
Do I need an application photo for my CV in Germany?
An application photo is not legally required in Germany, but it is still common and is received positively by many employers if you choose to include one. If you add a photo, it should look professional: a neutral background, appropriate clothing, and a recent picture no older than two years. The CV Editor leaves the photo position in the DIN format open, so a photo is optional and can be added or removed at any time.
